Is moringa good for eyesight?

What does research show about moringa and the eyes?
The strongest case for moringa and eye health is nutritional: moringa leaves contain carotenoids relevant to normal vitamin A intake.
Direct eye research is much weaker. Published experimental studies have investigated moringa stem, seed or concentrated extracts in cultured lenses, retinal cells, rabbits or other laboratory models. Some reported antioxidant or protective effects under experimental conditions.
Those studies may help researchers identify questions worth testing in humans. They do not show that eating moringa leaf powder or swallowing moringa capsules treats cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disease or poor eyesight.

Is moringa the same as an AREDS2 eye supplement?
No. AREDS2 is a specific formulation studied by the National Eye Institute for certain people with intermediate or late age-related macular degeneration. It contains defined amounts of lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins C and E, zinc and copper.
Moringa is not an AREDS2 formulation and should not be substituted for it. AREDS2 is also not intended for everyone; an eye-care professional should determine whether it is appropriate.
